While this sounds nightmarish, the AirRes Mask has incredible potential in training people on how to react to fire, and could even become a valuable tool for firefighters.
Basically, the AirRes Mask has the potential to connect to any regular VR headset to involve your breathing as well in the virtual experience.
It can monitor your breath and include it into virtual experiences like blowing virtual candles, holding your breath to steady a gun or inflate balloon, so it one day might be an essential gaming accessory. Imagine it being used to train pilots to react to the strain of high-g forces on their lungs.

However, the AirRes mask is still in its early phases.
Presented in a paper published in CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, the AirRes mask could also be a tool in psychotherapy which would add additional physical stimuli to the experience.
